Chaweng beach Koh Samui
Samui’s most popular beach
Koh Samui was originally discovered by backpackers in the 70’s and is now visited by over a million tourists per year.
Chaweng Beach is by the far the most popular beach resort on Koh Samui, it’s now the islands biggest town. The beach itself is powdery white sand and stretches for about five kilometres along the east coast of the island.
Chaweng is split into sections. North Chaweng, central Chaweng and Chaweng Noi (Little Chaweng) which is to the south.
The busiest part of Chaweng beach is the central area, head a little further south or north to find a quieter spot for your beach towel.
During the day Chaweng is all about the beach and water sports, including kayaking, windsurfing, jet skiing and parasailing. Snorkeling is possible as there is a small reef just off the main beach, you will see a few smaller tropical fish. Or swim out to the small offshore islands and explore around the rocks.
Of course you don’t have to be active, it’s easy to do nothing all day. Relax on a sun lounger and buy drinks and food from a passing vendor.
Away from the beach Chaweng has everything for all tastes including fantastic restaurants, bars, cafes and shopping. There are tons of accommodation options, from five star resorts down to budget backpacker hostels. Most Koh Samui tours pick up guests from hotels in Chaweng beach.
Chaweng Beach is Koh Samui nightlife central whether your want to chill out in a reggae bar or rave away at a beach club.
