Khao Lak Snorkeling trip to Koh Bon
We don’t have a one day Khao Lak snorkeling trip to Koh Bon other than trips that join with the dive boats. Snorkelers should only join these trips if you are very keen to see manta rays and are strong swimmers.
The chances of seeing manta rays are 50/50 at best. If you miss the manta rays you may find Koh Bon a disappointing day trip because there is little else to see. For this reason we recommend the Similan Islands and Koh Tachai day trips ahead of Koh Bon. The liveaboards that visit Koh Bon have a better chance of seeing manta rays. They can spend more time in the area and can be there early in the morning before the day trippers arrive and scare the manta rays away. The snorkeling liveaboard boats have better itineraries than the dive boats.
Manta rays come to Koh Bon to visit their regular cleaning station on a submerged plateau. The mantas typically swim in shallow waters (you can sometimes see them from the boat when they breech the surface) and if you are lucky they’ll stay for an hour or more, performing loop the loops.
Travelling time from Khao Lak to Koh Bon is approximately 1.5 hours each way by speedboat. Koh Bon is part of Mu Koh Similan marine national park.
