What to expect

Phuket Phi Phi diving and snorkelingOn this Phuket Phi Phi diving day trip the snorkelers join with the divers on the dive boat.

This is a good trip if you want to try diving for the first time, or if you’ve dived before but are not certified. This is also the best trip if you are a mixed group of divers and snorkelers.

The dive boat is slower (about 10 knots) than the Phuket to Phi Phi speedboats so it takes about 2.5 hours to get to the Phi Phi Islands.

Because of this you can’t visit as many different islands and there is no time to visit the beach. But you will visit the best reefs (different reefs to the speedboat day trips)and the pace is relaxed. The journey is a very pleasant one with time to sunbathe on deck or just admire the scenery.

The advantage of this type of boat is that you can walk around on board, get cool drink, catch up on some sleep etc. It’s more comfortable than a speedboat.

The Discover Scuba Dive program (also called an Intro dive, try dive, resort dive or DSD) is with a qualified PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Instructor. It’s an easy introduction to the world of scuba diving. No experience is required, you must be fit, healthy and over 10 years of age. What is Discover SCUBA Diving and who can do it?

The dive/snorkel sites visited are excellent. Koh Bida Nai and Koh Bida Nok islands are not visited by the regular snorkel tours, only by the dive boats. They have very nice soft corals and sea fans. They also have Leopard sharks (harmless) and turtles. The afternoon dive/snorkel session is often outside Maya bay where black tip reef sharks are commonly seen.
