Bophut beach Koh Samui
A beach with character and charm
Bophut Beach is beautiful long golden sandy beach located in north Koh Samui between Maenam beach and Big Buddha beach. Bophut is only a few minutes from the Samui International Airport.
What makes Bophut beach special is the well preserved old timber buildings which are a reminder of a different era.
Bophut beach is hardly a secret anymore but it’s still relatively quiet. There has been a lot of development in recent years although most of it is at the western end of the beach. On the whole Bophut still retains its natural beauty and charm.
The main village towards the east of Bophut beach is known as Fisherman’s Village and is a quaint little place. The local community is very proud of their village, the peace and tranquility found here is a complete contrast to the faster paced Chaweng, which is only 15 minutes drive away. Bophut is a more romantic place.
Bophut Beach activities on the beach are somewhat limited, hammocks are more popular than jet skis. The most energetic time of the day will probably be sunset when everyone tries to time the perfect shot.
There several fine restaurants in Bophut and some fantastic little bars. There are a few tourist shops and some more boutique artsy type places. There are massage places and a pharmacy. The Friday night walking market is the main event of the week.
