Rocky Phuket beach
Kalim beach is just north of Patong Beach, you can walk to it over the headland.
It’s a rocky shallow beach that comes right up to the road, at very high tides it can come over the road.
Kalim is a good beach for rock pooling and crabbing but not really for swimming. You can rent snorkels and masks from one of the small shops opposite the beach.
Some people find a secluded spot to sunbathe (the south end is best) but there are better beaches on Phuket for sunbathing.
In the low season it’s popular with surfers but you need to be good to avoid injury on the rocks.
Kalim evening food market
In the evening the road through Kalim comes alive as the parking area next to the sea is taken over by food stalls. You can get roti pancakes, padthai seafood, noodle soup, barbeque and many other dishes. A few stalls have fold out tables and chairs where you can sit and eat. Or just sit on the sea wall. It’s a good place to be at sunset.
On the headland between Patong and Kalim beaches there are some restaurants. And on the road north past Kalim towards Nakalay there are more restaurants with views out over the Andaman sea.
Would we recommend staying in Kalim? No. There are better places to stay. Beware of hotels or AirBnB’s that say they are in Patong when really they are in Kalim. You will spend too much time walking to Patong, or paying for tuk tuks. Better to stay in Patong or further north in Kamala.
