Koh Tachai snorkeling tours from Khao Lak
Update 2017: Koh Tachai beach is currently off limits for conservation so day trips are not running. You can still snorkel on Koh Tachai reefs by liveaboard. Three, four or five day trips offer the very best snorkeling and beaches in Thailand.
These trips can include Richelieu Rock (whale sharks), Koh Bon (manta rays) and the Surin Islands (turtles and the Moken sea gypsy village).
Koh Tachai (Tachai Island) is a small island just north of the Similan Islands and part of the Mu Ko Similan marine national park. It is an unspoiled gem that has some of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches. It also has amazing snorkeling and diving from November to April (from May to October there are no boats going to Koh Tachai). The snorkeling on the offshore reef that runs parallel to the beach on the east coast is excellent.
It is great for experienced snorkelers who are comfortable in open water (there are other snorkeling spots for less experienced snorkelers). On the outer edge of the reef it’s always possible to see the bigger fish, even sharks and manta rays but you will probably not see these on the day trips, only the liveaboards regularly see pelagics. Still the day trips are a great day to an island that some are calling the Maldives of Thailand.
