A popular tour from Krabi is to the Emerald Pool and the natural hot springs (namtok rawn) nearby. They are about 90 minutes drive from Ao Nang. The ideal way to go is with your own transport, take highway 4 south until Klong Thom then turn off on the 4038 road and follow the signs from there. The Emerald Pool and the Hot Springs are about 15 minutes drive from each other. There is a 90 baht national park entrance fee into the hot springs and a 200 baht fee into the Emerald pool, plus 30 baht for parking. The price for children and Thai nationals is less. Driving yourself gives you the time to explore at your leisure but if that’s not practical a join this tour which includes transport, lunch, a guide and entrance fees. The tour also includes the Tiger Cave temple a short distance outside Krabi town.

All these attractions are busier on weekends than during the week because they are popular with local tourists. The earlier that you arrive at the Emerald pool, the clearer the water is.

From the entrance you have two choices, the long walk or the short walk to the pools. The long walk is 1,400m along a raised concrete path that has been built through the rain forest, it’s a very pretty walk past ponds and streams. The short route is 800m along a dirty track. I recommend taking the long route in and the short route out. Once at the pool be very careful on the slippery rocks all around.

There is also a Blue Pool nearby but it’s not obviously signposted. Follow the path away from the green pool for a further 600m to get to it. You will pass a small shrine to the hermit on the way. It’s definitely worth the extra walk as it’s a more beautiful pool than the Emerald Pool.

The hot springs are quite small but fun and relaxing to sit in for a while. They are just a few minutes walk from the entrance in a lovely natural setting.
