Nai Thon beach
Squeaky beach in north west Phuket
Nai Thon beach is a smallish beach on Phuket’s west coast. It’s a real beauty. To the south is Bangtao, north is Naiyang and Phuket airport.
Nai Thon used to be very sleepy and although it is still one of Phuket’s quieter beaches it’s hardly a secret location any more. The Pullman resort is at the north end of the beach. The southern headland is home to some luxury villas. The owners of these exclusive residences probably prefer Phuket in low season (May to Oct) when Naithon is almost deserted and they don’t have to look at the tourist riffraff.
Nai Thon has lovely fine sand that squeaks as you walk on it. The faster you walk, the more it squeaks 🙂
The sand slopes gently in to the water and is usually crystal clear, making Nai Thon an excellent swimming beach.
The beach road runs just behind the beach and is handy for parking if you are driving yourself. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from along the road.
If you want sun loungers and umbrellas you can hire them on the beach. Or if you prefer to lay on your beach towel there is empty space. You can also get shade from the trees in the morning.
At the time of writing there are no jet ski or para-sail operators on the beach.
Snorkeling at Nai Thon beach
Snorkeling is possible at either end of the Nai Thon beach, around the granite boulders that break the surface. The marine life is okay considering the proximity to shore. Look for trumpet fish, flute mouths, crocodile needle fish, parrot fish among others.
