Snorkeling with a whale shark

Similan Islands snorkeling and diving boats

Some liveaboard boats that visit the Similan and Surin Island national marine parks are predominately geared towards scuba divers with snorkelers being considered just non divers. There are also a few liveaboards that cater exclusively for snorkelers, they carry no scuba tanks, MV Sawan is a good example. A few boats cater to divers and snorkelers equally. They are ideal for couples with mixed interests or families where mum and dad dive and the kids snorkel.

These mixed discipline liveaboards are also ideal for anyone who wants to snorkel most of the time but also do a couple of dives on the best dive sites. The Similan Islands has many shallow coral reefs where snorkelers see as much marine life as the divers, maybe more. But there are also some awesome dive sites where the fun starts below snorkeling depths.

Diva Andaman

Some of these snorkeling boats also allow non certified divers to complete their PADI Open Water certification in the Similan Islands or to just try one dive with a PADI Instructor.

Here are a selection of liveaboards suitable to divers and snorkelers.
