Discover SCUBA diving Similan Islands (DSD)
Update Sep 2017: Discover Scuba / Try dives are now banned within the Similan Islands national park. We can offer DSD’s from Phuket, or on local Khao Lak reefs
- No experience required.
- Two dives with a professional PADI diving instructor.
- Half day pool and one day (2 boat dives) at the Similan Islands.
- Pick up from Khao lak hotels.
- Snorkelers and certified divers can join the boat.
This program is for beginners with no previous diving experience. If you have tried diving before you may be able to skip the half day pool session and just go on the dives to the Similan Islands (6,000 baht).
Schedule and Itinerary
Available Tues, Thurs, Sat from November to April
Duration: 1.5 days. Half day theory and pool followed by one full day on the dive boat at the Similan Islands
0645-0745 hrs: Hotel pick up and transfer to the dive centre. Sign in and pay national park fees then transfer to the pier at Thap Lamu (15 minutes drive)
0800-1100 hrs: Cruise to the islands. On the way there is a boat briefing and you can enjoy a buffet breakfast (full English!). You will meet your dive instructor who will show you your dive equipment and brief you about your days diving.
1100-1200 hrs: First dive
1200-1400 hrs: Lunch on the boat plus beach excursion to either Koh Miang (island 4) or Koh Similan (island 8).
1400-15-00 hrs: Second dive
1500-1800 hrs: Cruise back to Khao Lak. Snacks are available on board.
1800 hrs: Transfer back to your hotel
Prices include: PADI dive guide/instructor, life vest, breakfast, lunch and snacks on the boat, round trip transfers from Khao Lak hotels (Nangthong and Bangniang areas).
Prices exclude: National Park fees (700 baht per diver, 500 baht per adult snorkeler, 300 baht per child), diving equipment for certified divers (500 baht per set per day).
Discover SCUBA Diving pre-requisites: To participate in a Discover SCUBA program you must be at least 10 years old. You must not be flying in any aircraft within 24 hours of SCUBA diving. You must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. You must read and complete the PADI medical statement.
– 7 days or more prior to the package or tour date: full refund less bank fees.
– 3-6 days prior to the package or tour date: 30% of total price
– Within 72 hours of the package or tour date, or no show: 100% of total price.
Weather Policy: This is an all weather tour and still runs if it is raining in the morning. The tour will be cancelled if the forecast is for rough sea unsafe for small boats. The decision to cancel is made on the morning of the tour by the boat captain and the harbour master, not the passengers. If a trip is cancelled because of bad weather you can reschedule to the next available day. If you cannot reschedule you will be refunded in full.
A Discover Scuba Diving Similan program (also called an Intro dive, try dive or DSD) is an easy introduction to the world of SCUBA diving. It’s a great way to go diving even if you are not certified as a diver. No experience is required, a qualified PADI* Instructor will guide you.
